Tonight, on the news, there was this hard-core Republican guy, Rep Carl Wimmer, confidently defending his proposal for new legislation that would give sheriffs the power to declare any new federal wildland designation “null and void.” According to Wimmer, there is a precedent set by the Supreme Court that elected sheriffs are the highest authority in the county that they represent.
The next clip was the former BLM directer—a man in his sixties wearing a white beard, with a demeanor similar to Steven Sondheim. He says in a calm conversational tone, “My hope is that the wilderness between his ears will settle down sufficient that the rational discussion that would need to follow might happen.”
Wish you could've been there.
