Two definitions

Many words and phrases have hidden meanings. These are some examples.

Words may need to be spoken aloud in order to understand the second definition.

Intimidate

First meaning: To cause someone fear of injury or harm

Second meaning: The action of naming one's child Tim

Example: Mr. and Mrs. Ferrin legally intimidated their seventh child so people would have something to call him.



Juxtapose

First meaning: To place close together or side by side

Second meaning: To make a gut assumption

Example: "What makes you think Bob is lying?" "I dunno... I guess I juxtapose."



Raisin' Hell

First meaning: A slang term describing misbehavior

Second meaning: A poorly made fruitcake



Blabbermouth

First meaning: Person who fails to use discretion in speech

Second meaning: The facial motion a female baby makes immediately before crying

Example: The adorable child began to blabbermouth when the candy was taken from her.



Dichotomy

First meaning: Splitting of a whole into exactly two parts

Second meaning: How to describe being placed in jail due to a coloring agent

Example: "I heard you put up quite a fight! What happened?" "Well, I was hiding in the shadows. If only I had changed out of that bright yellow shirt, they would never have seen me. I suppose in the end, dichotomy."



Apprehend

First meaning: To grasp the meaning of, understand, perceive

Second meaning: To learn the purpose of a cell phone application



Champagne

First meaning: A sparkling, dry, white table wine from France.

Second meaning: The physical punishment a victor feels following a big game


Briefcase

First meaning: Portable folding case for holding papers

Second meaning: A hasty end to a legal proceeding



Meteor

First meaning: A fiery streak in the sky produced by a meteoroid passing through the earth's atmosphere

Second meaning: When you encounter a donkey in the Hundred Acre Wood
