Just as Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy urges that a hitchhiker always carry his towel with him, I
recommend to all new mothers that you always carry a crib sheet with
you. These are all the ways I used a crib sheet yesterday on my bike
ride with Nicole:
1) Draped it over her carriage/bike
trailer when she fell asleep to protect her from sunburn and
2) wet the sheet to act as an
evaporative cooler in conjunction with the wind since it was 75
degrees and there was little air flow in her carriage;
3) used as a nursing cover when we
arrived at our destination, and it was long enough to wrap around my
body and secure by tucking into my pants to prevent the wind from
grabbing it--a crib sheet is my favorite nursing cover because it is
the perfect size and so light and doesn't make the baby hot;
4) used as a light blanket for Nicole
on our ride back when the weather cooled down; and
5) used it to wipe her face after I
fed her baby food.
On top of all its uses, a crib sheet
takes up very little space!
Other potential uses are a bib, a baby
toga, or to tie up your baby's clothes when he has a blow-out of
poop. It will even serve your needs in the face of a threat, such
as if you should ever encounter a baby that is cuter than yours.
Simply lay the baby in the curve of the sheet, twist the rest of the
sheet like a rope, then carefully swing the sheet above your head
like you are about to throw a lasso, and then release your grip once
you have reached your peak velocity. The other baby should go flying
and land on the pavement with sufficient force to mess up his face.
I'm sure there are millions of other uses you will encounter if you
always carry a crib sheet with you!
