Deep in the heart of Utah county, in
the home of Tim and Carly, lives the Nicole. As we peer into their
home tonight, we see that the Nicole has learned a new call, and she
is practicing it. The Nicole makes her call by screeching as high as
she can while making her voice gravelly, sounding almost as if she
were being choked—or as if she were a goat fighting with a cat—or a train screeching to a halt. She sustains the call for several seconds, then
begins the call again. By instinct, the Nicole knows that, to be
effective, the call must be repeated for a minimum twenty-minute time
span—for the purpose of this call is to wear down and drive away
kidnappers. The Nicole can safely rehearse this call in her home
because she knows that, no matter how horrifying her call may be, her rightful parents will never abandon her.
