Trust

Gordon B. Hinckley got it right when he spoke of the vital importance of trust in his book, Standing for Something: Ten Neglected Virtues That Will Heal Our Hearts and Homes.

Trust is what our world stands on. Our world depends on it. So when you whip trust out from beneath our feet, the world lands on its butt and gets a bruised tail bone. We eat trust, we drive trust, we lend trust, we buy trust. It is trust that puts us at ease when we drive through a green light, because we know someone isn't going to buzz right through their red one. Because of trust, we stop at stop signs and go at our turn. With trust, we swipe our debit cards at the gas station, because we know the owners aren't going to somehow save our card numbers. With trust, we tuck our money safely in banks. With trust, we let sitters watch our children. With trust, we elect leaders to run our country.

With trust, banks loan us money. With trust, employers let us do our jobs. With trust, we peruse the mall freely. With trust, our spouses agree to marry us. With trust, we are not an obstacle to our society.
